Here are 5 tips for positive workplace morale:
- Recognize special days -- This includes special times like birthdays, anniversaries and holidays.
Note: A birthday celebration does not have to include cake with fatty frosting and ice cream. Look for healthier treats, like fruit kabobs with yogurt dip, frozen fruit bars, Rice Krispie treats, or yogurt covered pretzels or raisins. There are tons of healthy dessert recipes out there, and just as many low-fat dessert products (like Skinny Cow™, which is Weight Watchers®-friendly). - Recognize achievement -- Your employees appreciate being appreciated! If you establish an employee recognition program to officially acknowledge personal accomplishments and company milestones, your employees are going to work harder… and enjoy doing so.
- Recognize with words -- A simple “Thank you” or “Job well done” goes a long way. Show your employees you value their work on a daily basis with these simple words of gratitude.
- Recognize “lunch time” -- One of the best ways to promote company camaraderie is to take your employees out for (a healthy) lunch… on the house! Not only does it provide an opportunity for employees to get to know one another and build relationships, but it also gives everyone a chance to get out of the workplace a bit -- this boosts mood and rejuvenates mental and physical energy.
- Recognize individuality – Avoid always treating and referring to your employees as a whole. Treat them as individuals with personal acknowledgment and one-on-one meetings.
